Madagascar is an island off the coast of Africa best known for its pristine forest and extreme biodiversity. In fact, a large portion of the animals on the island are endemic - meaning that they can’t be found anywhere else. Because of this, Madagascar has become a research and conservation hotspot.
Music is a powerful way to build and reinforce connection, between individuals and among communities. The Boston Celtic Music Festival (BCMFest for short), which happens this year on 11 and 12 January around Harvard Square in Cambridge, Massachusetts, celebrates and creates connections across traditions and generations.

In the early 1800s, the Serbs were growing restless of the Ottoman’s rule. They formed a band of around 10,000 rebels, led by Stevan Sinđelić. Advancing on the city of Niš, the rebels encountered a force of nearly 30,000 Turkish soldiers. The Serbs defended their positions, but when there was no hope of anyone surviving, Stevan Sinđelić went onto the gunpowder stores and fired his flintlock pistol into the barrels of powder. He blew up everyone on the battlefield, including all of the attacking Turks and his men, too.
