I give the okay signal and roll back off the boat; the water engulfs me. Submerging below the ocean surface, I become one with the sea. With slow steady strokes from my fins pushing me forward, and the loud reassuring sound of the dive regulator filling my lungs with oxygen, I am able to take in all of the reef’s ecosystem.

An archipelago of 115 islands, some coral and some granite, 40 of which are inhabited. Birds, rare flowers, stunning beaches, and a tropical rainforest climate. Where are you? The Seychelles, the smallest (population-wise) African country, located hundreds of miles east of Kenya, northeast of Madagascar.
It’s less than 30 degrees Fahrenheit out and light flurries flutter from the sky. They dance in the brisk wind that’s chilling my body. Jeans weren’t a good idea, but when are they ever in winter? The sun is hidden behind a blanket of gray clouds, leaving the city dim for the twelve in the afternoon time.

Such is the case for 8 residents (ages 87-97) of the Jewish Home for the Elderly in Connecticut, who journey to Israel with a film team, nursing companions, and the CEO of the Home, Andrew Banoff.
