The Olympics are a time of joy and celebration, a coming together of competition and countries, to compete at the best of their ability, in a sport they love. We spectators get to see this unfold, all in glorious technicolour, like a good soap opera with a bit of national pride thrown in for good measure.

London is this year’'s host of the Olympic Games, in case you weren'’t aware...in which case, where you have you been?!

Three days in San Diego was insufficient to cover the highpoints. Where to start? The San Diego Zoo was a must see. Balboa park and a museum or two were also near the top of our list. Seeing Old Town, eating out, walking the port – too much for the mere 72 hours between landing and leaving.

 

As an American, Cuba has always seemed like an unreachable destination – or at least extremely inconvenient. Imagine my surprise then, when I discovered a group travel package to Cuba directly from Miami!

“Las Tortugas” that’s what Christopher Columbus first called three islands he spotted in the Caribbean Sea May 10, 1503. He recorded that the islands were “full of tortoises, as was the sea about, inasmuch as they looked like little rocks.” Turtles were so plentiful on the islands, that legend has it sailors avoided them, thinking they were haunted: Apparently, there were so many turtles along the shores and banks of the islands that from a distance the land appeared to be moving.
